Dr. Theodore Welling is an Associate Professor of Surgery and the Director of the Liver Tumor Program in the Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cancer Center at New York University Langone Health. During residency, he was drawn to the specialty of hepatobiliary oncology and liver transplantation, which led him to pursue a fellowship in transplantation. He chose to focus specifically in HPB surgical oncology. As director of the Liver Tumor Program, he has established a multidisciplinary approach to treating patients who have liver or biliary cancer. Dr. Welling conducts translational and clinical research focused on liver and pancreatic cancers. He collaborates with other researchers to identify new areas of biology to target therapeutically and ways to optimize existing therapies. He is a member of the International Liver Cancer Association, Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, American Association for the Study of Liver Disease and the American College of Surgeons.
